Our History

Laura Melendrez and Debra Broberg founded Amor & Rosas while studying for their master's degree at Yale School of Management. They won a fellowship from the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute that allowed them to incubate their idea in the summer of 2016. That's how in September of that same year, Laura decided to move to Mexico City to start the brand.
Amor & Rosas was born with the aim of incorporating design with Mexican artisanal techniques to create a differentiated product that allows paying the right price to all those involved in the manufacture of its garments. That is why Amor & Rosas creates unique and authentic ethical fashion for the socially conscious consumer.
Currently, Amor & Rosas focuses on offering employment opportunities to women artisans who are experts in hand embroidery in Hidalgo and Chiapas, as well as to women who make the garments in Mexico City. Always prioritizing the care of the environment by using ecological materials, producing without waste, and creating timeless, high-quality garments.

Introduction to us

Amor & Rosas, being a social enterprise, is committed to offering a positive impact to our suppliers, collaborators, clients, and the environment. This is why our supply chain is traceable and transparent.
Our values are social transformation, female empowerment, gender equality and environmental sustainability. By the way, since 2020 we have been part of the community of B Companies that seek to develop a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Social impact

The social impact has never looked better.
Mexico has a long tradition of textile manufacturing and what we do is use these ancestral skills to create unique and authentic garments. By incorporating the use of hand embroidery in our garments we create well-paid employment opportunities in the rural communities where the artisans live. We have a supplier-customer relationship, where the artisans participate in setting prices by recording the time it takes to make each piece of embroidery.
To ensure social transformation, a person must receive an income above the poverty line that is also constant. That is why since 2018 we have concentrated our efforts on increasing the average income of the artisans we work with. To date, we work exclusively with 55 artisans, who live in Tenancingo, Hidalgo and Chenalho, Chiapas.
They are organized with a group leader who receives and distributes our orders. This allows each artisan to work from home as long as she has available time and without interfering with her other responsibilities.

Both the artisans and our team in Mexico City are the protagonists at Amor & Rosas. Our team members love their profession and share their knowledge in making quality garments with great attention to detail. That is why we offer our team a fair contract with a 20% premium over average market wages and a safe workplace. By the way, we believe in creating inclusive work environments, which is why 80% of the team is female.

    Manufacturing and the environment

Our garments are always designed with the goal of producing high-quality, long-lasting garments with minimal environmental impact. That's why, as part of our commitment to the environment, we produce locally in small quantities and without waste, we use ecological textiles or fabric remnants that allow us to produce limited editions; and our packaging is minimal, meaning we don't use plastic, just a layer of outer packaging made of recycled paper or a cloth bag that you can use later as an accessory.
One of the main problems with fashion and the environment is producing more clothes than the market demands, these surplus clothes will never be sold and end up being a burden on the environment. This is the main reason why we have control of our production from start to finish, which allows us to produce in small quantities so as not to fall into surplus. The good news is that our productions are small and exclusive, on the other hand, sometimes our products are out of stock for more than 3 months. Our solution to this problem is that we can always make one of our garments on request and at no extra cost. So, if there is any style you want please write to us.
As part of the B Corporation community, we have joined the Net Zero 2030 movement, so in 2022 we will be creating our action plan to achieve it.
